She passed from this life on Tuesday morning, July 4, at her residence at North Hill after a long period of illness which involved frequent trips to the United States for treatment. Her death has been received with much sadness by the populace of Anguilla who loved, respected and admired her for her fine qualities, humanitarian spirit, love for country and fellowmen.

Mrs. Ballin was a stalwart in Anguilla with a strong personality yet of a very gentle and dignified deportment. Her contribution to the business and economic development of the island has been most outstanding through her business ventures and ownership of Alecia Place, Keene Enterprise and real estate work. In addition, she has been an active community worker, having held leadership positions in the Anguilla Community Foundation and the Soroptimist Club of Anguilla which have done so much for the social life of the island and its people.

Just recently, on Anguilla Day, Mrs. Ballin was presented with a Medal of Honour and a Queen’s Certificate for her contribution to the social and economic life of Anguilla. She has been a true daughter of Anguilla, whose noble living, love and work, have graced her island home and stolen the hearts of those who knew her.

Recently, a special service was held for her at Bethel Methodist Church, where she “was given her flowers while she lived” (according to one person) as her heath condition deteriorated. Mrs. Ballin appreciated it very much, saying she preferred it that way and spoke of her own involvement in the service. Throughout her illness she displayed much spiritual courage and hope, a fine example to other terminally ill persons. Her memory will be cherished by everyone who knew, worked or associated with her over the many years.

The Anguillian offers its heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved family, friends and employees of the late Mrs. Ballin as well as the organisations in which she served so faithfully.

May she rest in peace.
