In attendance were members of the four Girls Brigade companies, under the general leadership of Captain Celia Brooks, with a total membership of more than two hundred.

During the service a number of officers and members were enrolled by the Brigade’s Chaplain, Reverend Lindsay Richardson. Speaking on the theme “One in Christ”, he challenged the young people to recognise the need for unity and to seek to live wholesome lives.

The youth were also addressed by Malcolm Webster, Director of the Pathfinders’ Drum Band which accepted an invitation to perform at a torch march from the Church to the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium. Webster, who spoke on behalf of Social Development Worker, Clive Smith, said the Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders had a similar theme of unity and exhorted the Methodist young people to stay away from the negative things of life.

The Girls’ Brigade is a world-wide, inter-denominational uniformed organisation for girls and women. Recognising that the influences surrounding young people are not always helpful and that too many lose control at great cost to themselves, their families and the community, the aim of the organisation is to catch the enthusiasm of youth and channel it purposefully.
Its holistic programmes are geared towards the educational, physical, spiritual and social growth of its members.
