The Hon. Attorney General in Anguilla, Ronald Scipio, has been appointed a Queen’s Counsel as he prepares to relinquish his public service post and enter the private sector later in the year. Governor Huckle making presentation to Attorney General

The presentation was made at a short ceremony at Government House attended by Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming and other members of the Executive Council. The outgoing Governor said the appointment was in recognition of the “sterling service that he has performed as Attorney General with the Government of Anguilla over a long period of years.” He stated that Mr Scipio had brought legal drafting and the administration of justice to a high standard on the island.
Mr Huckle noted that Mr. Scipio, appointed in September 1997, was one of the longest-serving Attorneys General in the region and the longest-serving Attorney General in Anguilla. He was appointed Senior Crown Counsel in the AG’s Chambers in 1995 and had served the Government and people of Anguilla with distinction. His appointment as QC was warmly endorsed by the acting Chief Justice, Brian Alleyne, the Chief Minister and other members of the Executive Council. Mr. Huckle added that he had also warmly congratulated the Attorney General on the honour accorded to him.
Replying, Mr. Scipio said that he had been in the legal profession for quite a long time and had spent the major portion of his legal career in the service of the Government of Anguilla. “I am indeed honoured to be given this appointment and I will obviously endeavour to maintain the standard and degree of practice that I have established over the years,” he stated. “I hope that I will in due course, in private practice, continue to maintain that standard and serve as a model which a Queen’s Counsel is intended to serve as for the junior members of the Anguilla Bar. I thank the Governor and Her Majesty for this appointment.”
