Youngsters FC battle Shining Stars FC
|
In the first encounter the defending champions, Shining Stars, were held on to a one draw. Captain, Sharice put the youngsters ahead mid-way into the first half, but Glennicia, “Bum Bum” Richardson scored the equalizer early into the second half, hitting home from close range. Val was named player of the game for her outstanding work in defence and midfield.
In the second encounter, early leaders Gazels recorded the only victory of the week, when they trounced the Super Stars by a score line of 3 goals to 1. Although, Super Stars scored first due to a Danecia Niles first half effort, Gazels came storming back with goals from Audra Missy Rogers, Judianna Vanterpool and leading striker, Krystie Webster. All the goals were scored on the first half. Although the second half was competitive and entertaining neither team was able to add to their first half efforts. Krystie Webster earned the player of the game.
On Sunday during the first encounter defending champions Shining Stars played to their second draw of the week in as many games. It was the Lil Soldiers who converted first from a Melesa Anderson first half strike. But Shining Stars hit back with goals from Bum Bum and Karisa Lake to take the lead. A late strike, one minute before the end of play, by Salama Davis saw Lil Soldiers earning their first points of the tournament as the game ended in a two-two draw. Karisa Lake was the player of the game.
In the final encounter, Super Stars and Youngsters also played to an exciting 2-2 draw. Youngsters draw first blood through striker Kenesha Xavier, but Super Stars fought back to take the lead with goals from Monique Carty and Makeba Reid. Kishma Smith snatched the equalizer 5 minutes from time with a superb close range shot. Monique Carty was named player of the game for her magnificent performance in defence and midfield.
Still in the first round of matches Gazell continued to lead with 8 points followed by Shining Stars with 7 points. In third place are the Youngsters with 6 points followed by Super Stars with 5 points and Lil Soldiers bringing up the rare with 2 points. Action continue this Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at the Ronald Webster Park Annex.
