The concert, a week following the observance of Easter, attracted a large number of members of all of the six Methodist congregations as well as persons from other churches and the community in general in Anguilla.
Spokesperson for the Road Town Senior Choir, Mrs. Irma Creque, said the theme of the concert Amazing Grace was based on the passion, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It included a melody of various tunes such as He’s Alive and Crown Him, King of Kings.
Mrs. Creque, whose husband is the brother-in-law of Madam Justice Janice George-Creque, High Court Judge in Anguilla, regretted that more choristers could not make the trip. She was pleased however that a number of spouses and friends had accompanied the choir members to support them. She saw the visit as an opportunity to fellowship with other Methodists on the island and said it was the choir’s fourth trip outside Tortola. Previous visits for performances were made to St. Kitts-Nevis and St. John.
The BVI choristers were welcomed to Anguilla on arrival at Wallblake Airport by Janice Hodge, a choir member of the senior choir at Ebenezer Methodist Church in the Valley. She recalled that her choir members “were treated royally” when they went to Tortola some tine ago and said they were “now happy to return that favour.”
Part of the hospitality showed to the visitors upon arrival was a sumptuous evening meal at the airport restaurant in arrangement with the proprietor, Calvert Carty, a staunch member of the Methodist Church in Anguilla.
Among the welcoming party were Reverends Joseph Lloyd and Cecil Weekes as well as a number of lay persons.
