Public Servants To Be Jurors

Acting Deputy Governor, Stanley Reid, noted that certain public servants like permanent secretaries and officers in the police, prison and probation services may be exempted.

In a Government circular, Mr. Reid observed that Anguilla was the only Caribbean Overseas Territory denying public servants an opportunity to be jurors.

“Many of the most well-educated Anguillians are public servants who have studied, lived and worked abroad where they have been exposed to different cultures and standards,” he wrote. “Such people would bring valuable experience to any jury. The current jury list is relatively small with many on the list being repeatedly called to jury service. While a few public servants may not welcome the proposed jury service, it is the duty of all responsible citizens to play their part in the judicial process when called upon to do so.”
