The Primary Schools Sports Day, sponsored by Tropical Shipping, through the company’s local agent Haskins Ltd., was held on March 30. The varied events were preceded by the annual road race on March 24. The running event was in two categories: juniors under 10 (one and a half miles) and seniors under 10 and over (three miles).

Stoney Ground School took both the junior and senior girls’ road races with Nicole Gumbs and Jonicia Richardson winning their events. The junior and senior boys’ events were won by Saleem Romney and Jadel Carty of the Road Primary School.

Meanwhile, speaking at the sports day opening ceremony at the Ronald Webster Park, Minister of Social Development, Evans Rogers, said his ministry was working hard to provide sporting facilities in the various public schools.

The work has been started at the Stoney Ground School and the Minister said the slow pace was a matter for concern as things should proceed quicker. The work will later be undertaken at the Road School, then the Valley School and eventually at the Alwyn Allison School, Morris Vanterpool School and Island Harbour School.
