The Founding Members Club was announced at a reception held at the residence of Deputy Governor and Mrs. Mark Capes on Tuesday evening, March 28 and chaired by ATA coach, Jason Allen. Mr. Capes commended the Academy, founded by Mitch Lake, for the great job it is doing for Anguilla and the children in particular and appealed for the support of the business community.
Ira Bloom, Managing Director of Kamique Properties, presented a cheque for US$5,000 payable to the ATA thus creating the framework for the Founding Members Club and for his project to be committed as one of the fifty limited memberships being offered.
The club has been designed to take advantage of the many activities and facilities the ATA will be offering. These include court time, tennis lessons and access to facilities. “We have been intrigued and impressed with ATA’s efforts in developing a first class tennis facility that will help foster more youth sports and community-oriented programmes for Anguilla, said Mr. Bloom, whose luxury villa resort is to be opened at Lockrum in 2007. “The Founding Members Club is a unique opportunity for us to take part in the Academy and additionally offer our guests access to the wide range of programmes and facilities the ATA has to offer.”
Mitch Lake disclosed that work on the construction of the tennis courts would begin in three weeks. “I am excited about the Founding Member campaign and certain that with the participation of villas, hotels and interested individuals in the community that a substantial sponsorship base will be formed to make the facility a reality,” he said. “I applaud Kamique Properties for their participation and encourage other villas to get involved in this programme that offers access and usage of what will be a great tennis centre.”
