WHOPPING WAHOO: An Exciting Day For Visitors From Wisconsin |

On Friday, March 24, Patrick Webster of Island Harbour took five visitors on a half day charter that included the men of the Suter (Mitch, Andy and Mike) and Kritter (Tim and Charlie) families of Madison, Wisconsin. When a giant Wahoo hit the tow bait the fishing reel screamed zing-zing-zing-zing-zing and startled everyone.

Soon, the fish took the entire spool of line and nearly got away before Patrick stopped the boat with barely 100 feet of line left on the reel. Everyone in the group then took turns until each was exhausted pulling in the massive Wahoo that weighed 66 pounds.
When asked about his third week earning bragging rights, at the dock, Patrick said: “I just use my secret weapon. I make my own tow bait, and I know what I need to catch ‘em.” The Suter and Kritter men said they were thrilled with the charter and had, coincidently, arranged for a private Anguillian chef to prepare dinner for ten that evening at the villa where they were staying. They likewise could boast about taking fresh Wahoo steaks to their home away from home while on vacation.

The competitive spirit among the Island Harbour fisherman continues to attract and inspire visitors, while they enjoy the wondrous natural blessings and environment. In addition to the successful catch, several whales were seen close to the boat during the charter which all agreed would have made the trip worthwhile – even if the fish had got away.
Robert Harrigan, another exceptional fisherman, put the catch in an Anguillian perspective by saying simply, “Good fish!” The many fresh pounds of delectable Wahoo beyond that dinner for 10 – were immediately sold to be enjoyed at the new Sand Piper Restaurant on Shoal Bay to the delight of other tourists and local patrons, as well. Good fish, Patrick!

Roger and Trivon with their catch

Meanwhile, Roger Smith, another young Island Harbour fisherman, on Tuesday this week, came in with the largest catch of fish so far on any one day.
He brought in some 500 lbs of Wahoo and dolphin caught off Sombrero.
Roger, who was accompanied by his brother Trivon, said he was taking his catch to the hotels.
