The Inter-American Economic Council has announced the selection of Mr. Allen Stanford as the 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award. The presentation was made in Washington, DC on February 9.

Mr. Stanford is Chairman and CEO of the Stanford Private Wealth Management and Chairman of Caribbean Star and Sun Airlines. He was unable to be in Anguilla last week for the presentation of the cheque of US$100,000 to the Cricket Association.
In announcing the Council’s decision to honour Mr. Stanford, President of the IAEC, Barry Feartherman said: “We admire and acknowledge Allen’s entrepreneurial achievements and generosity in promoting and, indeed, expanding economic and social development opportunities throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.”

As Chairman of the Houston-based Stanford Private Wealth Management, Stanford leads a global wealth management and financial services organisation with offices spanning across North America, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean. Stanford companies operate in relation with more than 70,000 clients from 102 countries. All Stanford companies strive to be active supporters of important causes in their respective countries and greater communities.

For more than 20 years, Stanford has flourished among the leading investors in the Eastern Caribbean. He recently launched the $1.8 billion Stanford Caribbean Investment Fund, which is allocated for upscale development projects aimed at the tourism sector. He also recently announced a US$28 million contribution to cricket in the Caribbean.
