The Royal Anguilla Police Force observed its 34th Anniversary last week under the theme Police and the Community the Right Mix for Police Week 2006. For the first time, the organising committee came up with the idea of an activity “for children only” as part of its week of activities.

There was a very large turnout of youngsters who feasted on the refreshments provided for them and enjoyed a wide range of games and other fun events on January 28.
Sergeant Yearwood, chairman of the organising sub-committee for this special event, told The Anguillian: “This is an unusual event. Every year we have had activities for adults and the senior citizens. This year we wanted to find something for the kids so we came up with Kiddies Jamboree 2006. I would like this to be an annual event so everyone can rest assured that we will have Kiddies Jamboree 2007.

“As you see the kids are enjoying themselves. They have lots of toys and lots of food. The adults who accompanied them also enjoyed themselves.”
The events included bouncy rides, face-painting, egg and spoon race, lucky dip, hoola-hoop competition, treasure hunt and potato race.
Apart from the fun activities, the aim of the function was supposedly to show the children that the police are a friend to them. As such, the police must help to protect our youth from the evils and abuse of society which seek to ensnare, harm and lead them astray.
