Artists exhibiting at Devonish Gallery. L to R Judy Guthrie, Barry Launius and Mandy Thody.

Barry Launius was one of the selected artists at the last Anguilla International Arts Festival who visited the island then. His paintings in the current exhibition are mostly in water colour, his favourite medium, with two of the fifteen in acrylic.
Barry was born and raised in the Midwest of the USA and first found his love for the tropics when visiting Hawaii. He now lives in Missouri but also has a home in Mexico. He is self-taught and has only been painting for the past seven years. He has exhibited in the United States, in St Thomas, Belize and Mexico.
The other artist showing her work is Mandy Thody who was born in England but is a long-term cruising sailor. She and her husband live on their boat in St John, USVI. Her exhibits are ceramics and include some unusual work with dolls, heads, and plaques some that use the Raku technique and a crackle glaze.
Mandy grew up in South Africa. Her father is a painter, architect and builder and her mother concentrated on textiles, clothing design and décor. She learned batik, weaving and dressmaking as a teenager and taught handicraft and adult literacy. She expanded into ceramics during the past few years and has an ever-expanding repertoire of sculptural pieces including animals, busts, platters and large reliefs.
The exhibition continues until the end of January and residents and visitors are encouraged to go and see the variety of work that is on show along with the work of Courtney Devonish and many other artists.
