The Anguillian Newspaper
Dear Editor,
Please allow me to make mention of an observation which I find very unpleasant and seems to be very common. One must admit that Anguilla is a beautiful little island and a place of relaxation, where ‘Tourism’ is our main engine of economic growth. When visitors come to these shores they are interested in seeing the culture, or ‘way of life’ of the local people.

Anguillians are a hospitable people, especially in the food industry, as is so evident by the number of restaurants, throughout the island, which cater to the lowest income earner to the most influential Hollywood star.
I have noticed a number of small businesses in the food service springing up at various locations, especially in the Valley area, in the form of ‘foodvans’ catering to the public, not to mention school children of both primary and secondary levels.
On weekend nights, the foodvan which operates in the Valley opposite the office of the Primary Health Care Department and attracts its own ‘friends’ from the Spanish-speaking community as well as Anguillians, opens until late in the night and lots of beverages mostly beer are consumed.
After the consumption of beer, etc. in large quantities the patrons, mostly male, lean up against trees, walls and even the buildings of the Primary Health Care Department depositing liquid waste from their bodies. Imagine the scent the following days when our school children would now be milling around and patronising the other vans and eating their lunch. This practice of urinating all over the place is very disgusting and unhealthy.
The time is right for the Government, or the Health Authority, to have a public facility erected and operational as we are a nation that is fast moving ahead.
