The Anguillian
Dear Editor,
Allow me a little space in your newspaper to express my concerns about some of our folks here in Anguilla. We have a few who are involved in the voices against the Planning Bill.
|
On close examination you would observe that these folks are the ones trying to hinder progress in Anguilla: Against the Airport, against the road from Shoal Bay to Island Harbour against any beneficial project for Anguilla and now the Planning Bill. Up to now no one has heard from them a comparison of the EXISTING LAW and the PRESENT DRAFT BILL.
Some of us are aware that decisions that are made by the director, presently, can be appealed to Executive Council. Has this provision been changed? I think Anguilla is developing and it needs LAWS in place to assist in this development. If the new Planning Bill was in place Cable & Wireless would not have so many antennas up.
Every Anguillian who has lived out of Anguilla, and those still living overseas, knows that there are certain rules and regulations they must adhere to when building or even putting out their garbage, so why should it be any different in Anguilla? Why in Anguilla it should be do as you like, in the name of our CULTURE. When driving through the island some of the yards are so untidy with garbage. One wonders where the culture of clean yards has gone. Anguillians of yester- years always kept their yards tidy looking. I think we need to pay attention to our surroundings and then would appreciate what we have.
Some are screaming to save the LAND and others are screaming for their project to get immediate attention all in the same group. Aren’t there mixed signals?
Anguillians wake up! Do we really know what we want or are we allowing the Late Robert Bradshaws words to come to pass? Don’t be fooled by the few in the midst, they are looking for work. They are the same ones who want the many projects to go ahead because the developers are their clients. They are not going to defend you against big bucks. Which one of them is looking for your interest in NICA?
I think the whole BILL THING is just a political camouflage. As one defeated candidate said, this is just the beginning to get them out. They should be educating the people, not keeping them ignorant. Elections are long gone.
An Anguillian
