Digicel To Launch Service In Anguilla


A press release issued by Digicel on August 24th, states that the Government of Anguilla has approved that Company’s acquisition of Cingular Wireless’ Anguilla. The Company Looks forward to offering competition and international roaming services.

Digicel Group, the fastest growing mobile telecommunications provider in the Caribbean, has confirmed that it has been given clearance to launch a GSM network in the recently liberalized Eastern Caribbean island of Anguilla. The company’s entry into Anguilla is part of Digicel’s planned acquisition of Cingular Wireless’ Caribbean and Bermuda operations which has been well received across the region. Approval in principle has also been granted from the Commonwealth Government of Dominica.
Digicel will launch a GSM network on the island and play a significant role in the liberalization of the telecommunications sector bringing for the first time all the benefits of competitive rates, international roaming, improved coverage, superior customer care and innovative products and services for which the Caribbean company has built its reputation over the past four years.
According to Minister for Infrastructure, Communities and Utilities, the Honorable Mr Kenneth Harrigan: “We are very pleased that Digicel will be playing a role in the liberalization of the Anguilla telecommunications sector. Having seen the benefits that Digicel’s presence in other Caribbean markets has brought, we are confident that we are now in a strong position for improved telecommunications to make a significant contribution towards the development of our tourism, financial and information-based services on our island.”
Thanking the Government of Anguilla and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Utilities for their support, Mr. Colm Delves, Digicel Group CEO, said: “Our customer-centric approach has led to success and increased market share in every country we have entered so far. Digicel and Cingular have also entered into a roaming agreement that provides favorable roaming rates in each other’s markets.
