Anguilla entered five athletes in five different categories. Alphonsene Williams, for the first time, competed in the body fitness category and placed third out of five contestants. Jason Jackman who competed in the light heavy category, came second from among five competitors.

The other members of the Anguillian team were Vernon Carty, Michael Connor (a first time competitor) and Desmond Paul, Mr. Anguilla. Joseph Pradel went with the team as coach.

Lelia Richardson, Vice President of the Anguilla Body-Building Association, who accompanied the team, expressed thanks to Caribbean Star Airline for making the trip to St. Vincent possible.

She said Anguilla was now preparing to host the championships next year when body building teams from all the Caribbean islands will be competing. “With the hosting of the show in 2006, it will be an additional incentive not only about building big muscles but about living a healthy life-style,” Mrs. Richardson explained. “You cannot take part in any sport unless you are fit. Fitness is the key. Body-building is therefore like a foundation because it is all about fitness.”

According to Mrs. Richardson, this is Anguilla’s sixth year in body-building. “I think we have made god strides and have held our own,” she added. “We are looking forward to going to the Central American/Caribbean Games in Aruba in September where we will take our athletes who secured positions in the St. Vincent show.”

The President of the Anguilla Body-Building Association is Peter Vasilis, a fitness instructor and writer on the island.
