The Anguilla Craft Group is an organization of women that meets weekly to make craft items for sale to raise money for projects that benefit the community, particularly the youth and elderly of Anguilla. Lindsay Lawrence, its President, made the donation on behalf of the group at their meeting last week. Mrs. Lawrence stated “We are happy to help give the young girls the opportunity to use sports to do something positive for themselves and for their nation. With the doors of opportunities being opened, through sports, this is one of the best avenues that our girls take to facilitate their holistic development.”
The Female Football Committee which represented the Anguilla Football Association at the presentation was represented by Team Manager Monica Guishard and Goalkeeper Coach Lynn Blankenship. Mrs. Guishard in accepting the donation stated: “The Anguilla Football Association and the Female Football Committee are indeed grateful for this generous and significant contribution…Our players will be the better both in their preparation and participation in the upcoming football camp and tournament because of the commitment to development of civil society organisations like the Craft Group…”
Coach Blankenship observed that, “We are so appreciative of this incredibly generous gift from the Anguilla Craft Group. Over the last two years, the female football program has grown and we would not have been able to do that without the generous support of the community. The girls are training hard to prepare for the upcoming challenges. A number of the girls have dreams of playing at university or higher level and trips like these help them attain their dreams.”
