Errol Romney To Drive Charm III Heineken Regatta 2005

Anguilla sailing legend Errol Romney of Blowing Point will helm Anguilla’s schooner Charm III in the upcoming 25th Anniversary Heineken Regatta March 4th, 5th & 6th. Errol is one of the premier captains in the Anguilla Race Boat series, piloting De Tree to many victories over the years.

Errol got a taste of helming the big boat during the Anguilla Regatta in 2004 and owners Richard & Maryse West were so impressed with his skill that they invited him to drive Charm III in the biggest regatta in the region.

Charm III, built in Sweden in 1928 and totally rebuilt on Sandy Ground beach, Anguilla, has met with great success particularly at the Antigua Classic where she beat the mighty 130 foot schooner Eleonora in 2003.

Captain Richard West says Charm III is a very complex, powerful boat requiring a very cool head and the kind of ability that you have to be born with. The boat will be competing head to head with modern race boats helmed by such Caribbean sailing legends as Hugh Bailey and Bobby Velasquez but Richard says that given the right weather conditions (big wind) the awesome power of the schooner can carry her to victory.
