They were thrilled to receive instruction in the rudiments of the violin playing from facilitator Pia Siirala, lead violinist with the Ensemble XXI Moscow. The trio was made up of Pierdtje Marlin, Gina and Shermel Richardson.

Topics covered during the two and a half hour session included posture, tuning, instrument care, tone production, plucking and bowing. Ms. Siirala was visibly impressed by the students who, at the end of the session, were able to perform a few short pieces along with their instructor.

Director of Music at the Morlens Music Studio, Mr. Lennox Vanterpool, was very pleased with the exercise and wishes to thank all those involved in making the visit of the Ensemble XXI Moscow possible. “I am always mindful of the fact that we have very promising musicians among us and with the encouragement and interaction of visiting groups such as what we have experienced lately, there is no telling how far these youngsters can reach.”

Mr. Vanterpool is also appealing to anyone who knows of the availability of a violin player/teacher on island to contact the studio at 497-4514. These students would benefit greatly from regular professional tuition.
