The brainchild of Chief Minister, Osbourne Fleming, the workshop took into account the fact that there is a general lack of understanding among young people with respect to how they should present themselves in the job market. The Fifth and Sixth Form school leavers were addressed on such matters as applications for employment; appropriate dress at interviews; common interview questions; communication skills; body language; personal qualities required for job success; work standards; attitudes at the work place including relationships with supervisors, co-workers, clients or customers; and the need to pursue further training and education courses as part of a life-long learning process.
Those who conducted the workshop sessions were Bernard Wattley of the Department of Public Administration; Mimi Gratton, Executive Director of the Hotel and Tourism Association, Hyacinth Hughes, retired Educator; Evalie Bradley, Labour Commissioner; Wilma Vanterpool of the Small Business Development Unit; and Sutcliffe Hodge, Chief Executive, Cable & Wireless.
Others who participated in the sessions were Lana Hoyoung, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office; Candis Niles, Deputy Director of Tourism; and Anita Ruan, of the Guidance and Counselling Department of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
