Do You Like Algebra?

Governor and Mrs. Alan Huckle visited the students at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School on Wednesday as they continued to familiarise themselves with the island, its people and various services.

The visit started at Campus B where the Governor and his wife were welcomed by Deputy Principal, Ingrid Lake.

They were escorted to one of the nearby classrooms where a lesson was in progress.

What’s this?” the Governor asked, looking at the blackboard.

“Algebra,” replied the students in unison.

“Do you like algebra?” he asked.

They responded with a resounding “no” while the teacher, Perry Richardson, looked on. Mrs. Huckle softened the reply when she commented that her knowledge of algebra was quite helpful to her when she left school in England.

The next call was at the adjoining classroom where Teacher Marvin Gumbs was conducting a lesson in mathematics, a rather difficult subject for some students. The visit was a break for many of them as the Governor sat with them in the classroom.
