| Publishing date: 04.06.2004 09:54 |
Family and friends in the North Hill, Sandy Ground, Stoney Ground and the Farrington communities joined Adriana Richardson in celebrating her 99th birthday on Friday, May 28.
|
The grand occasion at North Hill, where Mrs. Richardson resides, took the form of a short thanksgiving service and a party. During the first part of the function, she joined the attendees in singing her favourite hymn Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross.
This was followed by a prayer and blessing by Assistant Anglican Priest, Reverend Menes Hodge. He commended her on reaching the age of 99 years and hoped that she would continue to enjoy a long life.
Other persons gave greetings including Mom Gats, a popular figure in North Hill, who sang a solo and Winifred Beard (of The Farrington), a relative of the grand old lady, said a prayer and expressed her congratulations.

Mrs. Richardson, who is originally from the Farrington, sat and joked with her husband Christopher who is 98 years old. She gave birth to four children – two sons Henry and Claude and two daughters Valerie and Helen, and she raised Clarice.
Mrs. Richardson spent her early life in the Farrington, where her mother, Fredricka Baird, lived. She eventually moved to North Hill with her husband. In her words, “This fellow came and stole me away.”
The celebration was held at the residence of her son Ellis and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ludi Richardson.
The family is grateful to all persons who attended the function and made it a memorable occasion.
