A general knowledge quiz, sponsored by American Airlines/American Eagle, was held at Stoney Ground Primary School with participation of all primary school schools.

The quiz tested the children’s knowledge on Anguilla’s history and current events. It also included some American Eagle trivia questions. The quiz was intended to encourage children to stay informed on Anguillian history and read local newspapers and to listen to the radio on current events. These skills are vital to the students’ development and growth as the world around forces them to stay in touch with global events.

The schools received various prizes. First prize went to Morris Vanterpool Primary with a score of 94 points; second place was Road Primary with 67 points and third place was Valley Primary with a total of 66 points.

First prize was a trip to Puerto Rico for the three children and two additional persons, which would include the Head Teacher. In addition to the trip all the schools received trophies, certificates of participation and school supply vouchers.

Mrs. Millie Hodge, General Manager of American Eagle in Anguilla, noted that the children were excited with their prizes. The quiz tested everyone’s knowledge on Anguilla History and the Revolution. The American Eagle Trivia questions tested their knowledge on the fleet type currently operating on Anguilla and what the future one would be.

Mrs. Hodge continued, “We are committed to the development of our youth and feel that it is important that we do everything possible to encourage reading and listenting to loyal and world current events. Tourism is our business and we must continue to promote self-development in our children if we are going to keep Anguilla in line with our upscale demands.”

Mrs. Hodge added that American Eagle looks forward to sponsoring the event next year once the education department elects to have one.
