New Governor In Anguilla

Anguilla’s new Governor, Alan Edden Huckle, and his wife, Helen, arrived on the island on Thursday May 27. They were welcomed at Wallblake Airport by members of the House of Assembly and other officials.

Mr. Huckle, who succeeds former Governor Peter Johnstone, took up his appointment today Friday May 28 following his swearing in at the House of Assembly and inspection of a Guard of Honour.

The newly-appointed Governor is no stranger to Anguilla, having visited the island in 2001. He was then, and just up to his present appointment, Head of the Overseas Territories Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He was based in Barbados between 1996 and 1998 as Head of the Dependent Territories Regional Secretariat.

Prior to those years, Mr. Huckle, who was born on June 15, 1948, served in Vienna as Deputy Head of Delegation from 1992-1996 and from 1990-1992 he was Deputy Head, Arms Control and Disarmament.

Other positions he held between the early and late 1980s included Head of Chancery in Manila; Executive Director with the British Information Service in New York as well as an appointment in the East African Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He entered the FCO in 1982.

The Governor and his wife have two children – a son and a daughter.
