A recent visitor to Anguilla was Judge Philip N. Gumbs who resides in Cliffwood, New Jersey, and whose parents were born in Anguilla. Now retired, he has been coming to Anguilla as often as possible and enjoying his stay at Nathan’s Cove at Meads Bay Beach. The two-storey building bearing that name is a family-owned property. Family members visiting from the United States occupy the top floor while the first floor provides excellent accommodation for tourists.

Judge Gumbs says he and his brothers and sisters are very fond of Anguilla and the progress the island is making. They are also proud that through Nathan’s Cove they are making a contribution to the tourism industry and the general development of Anguilla.
The family members are grateful to their relative David Hodge of Long Bay for his faithfulness in overseeing their property in their absence.
Judge Gumbs is a graduate of John Marshall College and Lincoln University School of Law, the latter being the institution where he obtained the Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree. He worked his way up through the legal profession having earlier served as an Attorney and a Probation Officer assigned to the New York State Supreme Court.
He served in the US Army from 1942 - 1945. He has been a popularly-elected Township Councilman and a successful Freehold candidate in New Jersey. He is a former member of the Board of Education and holds membership in a number of leading associations.
