Joan Richardson who, for many years operated Anguilla Stationers and other related business ventures, has taken a big leap forward in enterprise development. On Tuesday this week, the hard-working entrepreneur opened her newly-built store on the Water Swamp main road to the cheers of family members, friends and well-wishers.

She now has all of her businesses under one roof, featuring a full stock of stationery supplies, various other office products and household items, Mother’s Care and Luxury Linen, Baby Products and her husband’s grocery and liquor business in a separate section of the building.
Speaking at Cynthia’s Place, the name of her business, Mrs. Richardson told The Anguillian: “You are seeing a combination of the different little outlets that I had – at the Social Security Building that housed mothers’ care and luxury linen my husband’s grocery shop and, of course, the main business is Stationery, Schools Supplies and Uniforms. She had operated her businesses at other locations including the Lakes’ Building in The Quarter.
Asked about her confidence and faith in the future business environment in Anguilla, she said: “I am hoping that if the Government stays on track and people cooperate with the development it is trying to do, everything should go well. With more tourists coming, things should grow. I am catering to school children, new-born babies and in general other needs on the island.”
“Why the name Cynthia’s Place?,” Joan was asked. “Oh it is named after my aunt [Cynthia Dore who resides in St. Kitts],” she replied. She fought the other members of my family to get this piece of land in this area because she told me that sooner or later I would have to build my own building. So in her honour, I named it Cynthia’s Place.
“Today is also a special day for me because it is my Mom’s birthday. She is deceased but my aunt, on behalf of my mother, fought for this piece of property, so it was only fitting that I open the building on her birthday and name it after my aunt.”
The ribbon to the entrance of the building was cut by Monifar Fahie assisted by Mrs. Dore. Monifa is Joan’s niece who, when not in her classroom at the Comprehensive School, has been of great assistance at Anguilla Stationers.
On Sunday, April 25, the building was blessed by Reverends Richard Fahie, Joseph Lloyd and Cecil Weekes.
Joan has been in business for some 22 years. The Anguillian wishes her every success in the future.
