The official announcement was made in New York on Thursday November 20 at which Anguilla’s Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, the Hon, Osbourne Fleming was among those who attended the ceremony. Those who delivered addresses included Robert Sillerman, Atef Mankaros (St. Regis), Paul Kanavous (Flag Luxury Properties), Scott Henshaw (Greg Norman Great White Shark Properties) and Mr. Fleming.
St. Regis Hotel has as its mission “bringing the feeling of Old World charm, service and hospitality to the New World”. The idea behind St. Regis back in 1902 was to create a hotel where gentlemen and their families could feel as comfortable as they would as guests in a private home. Throughout its history St. Regis Hotel has invariably attracted the most generous, creative and intriguing personalities of each era.
From New York to Beijing, St. Regis Hotels are not only desirably located but also offer unprecedented excellence in standards of hospitality and elegance. St. Regis sees its secret as its impeccable staff who are willing to go to any lengths to ensure that guests experience the utmost in comfort, down to the most minute detail.
On July 1, 2003 following much discussion between the principals of Flag Luxury Properties (Anguilla) LLC and the Government of Anguilla for a golf course and luxury accommodations, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed at a public ceremony at the Anguilla House of Assembly. As part of the Agreement regarding the project, the Developer, Flag Luxury Properties (Anguilla) LLC, is to construct and develop a hotel.
The Agreement also states that “subject to the approval of the government, the Developer will engage an internationally recognized luxury hotel operator for the operation of the tourism accommodation components for the project”. The Government of Anguilla pre-approved three hotel operators: Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis.
A release from the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday November 19, stated that Mr. Fleming had left Anguilla to attend the official announcement of St. Regis as the operator for the hotel component of the golf course.
