Dear Sir,
OTHERS SHOULD SHARE THE PRAISE
I am writing in response to the letter of Mr. Eric Martineau in last week’s edition.
Whilst Mr. Martineau’s sentiments are extremely generous, I would like to clarify a few points to which he refers.

The extraordinary success of Omari Banks is due not only to his personal dedication and desire to reach for the ultimate in the cricketing world, but also to the dedication and nurturing of young talent by such persons as David Kenworthy and Cardigan Connor. They saw in Omari the necessary latent talent and provided endless encouragement to see him through his adolescent formative years and instilled in him the confidence that allowed him to set himself the ultimate goal.
The success of the Anguilla Cycling Team at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 was due to the maturity and dedication of the team members and also a great back up team including such persons as Ken Banks, Alkins Rogers, again Cardigan Connor, Rollins Richardson and others who put in all the work to make that event a huge success for Anguilla and a truly fulfilling experience for the riders.
The evident success of the Anguilla Regatta 2003 was the result of a dedicated approach by the Tourist Board, John Benjamin, “Briggy” Tomlinson & staff, Calvert Carty, Harris Richardson and a host of other people who dedicated many, many hours to detailed planning and execution of the event.
In all the above cases, the people involved extended themselves selflessly with very simple goals: to offer opportunity to local athletes (and I count the crews of the local traditional boats as athletes) and to Big Up Anguilla and put her on the map.
I know that all the people involved in these events (organizers and athletes) got enormous satisfaction from seeing dreams become reality, and no other reward was either sought nor expected.
Sincerely
Richard West
