| Publishing date: 09.05.2003 12:19 |
As plans continue for the International Yacht Regatta in Anguilla at the end of the month, All Island Cable Television has made a substantial donation of US $2,500 towards the event.

In making the presentation on Wednesday, May 7, Manager of the company, Barbara Owen, congratulated the regatta committee for promoting off-season tourism in Anguilla and endorsing the island as a first class tourist destination. She hoped that the event would become an annual one to promote the Anguilla Day celebrations and to keep alive the exciting sport of boat-racing.
Mrs. Owen noted her family’s pioneering involvement in boat racing and said it was a privilege for her to make the donation to the regatta committee on behalf of All Island Cable Television.
Laurie Gumbs who, along with Richard West, is involved in the technical aspects of the regatta was grateful to the television company (for its early and note-worthy contribution) and all other persons and companies providing much-needed support. He stated that fifteen yachts from the neighbouring islands had confirmed their participation in the regatta and that confirmation was being awaited from another twenty.
Chairman of the Tourism Board, John Benjamin, thanked Richard and Maryse West and Laurie Gumbs for their technical expertise with respect to the regatta. He was also grateful to All Island Cable Television for its new thrust in community life.
The regatta will be held from Anguilla Day May 30 to June 1 in association with the famed Anguillian racing boats. The committee planning the regatta is chaired by John Benjamin with others being Richard and Maryse West, Laurie Gumbs, Calvert Carty, Gianfranco Camperetti, Fitzroy Tomlinson and other volunteers.
