128 TEACHERS AT WORKSHOP


Monday April 28 was the first of a two-week workshop aimed at raising the standard of teaching and learning numeracy in the six public Primary Schools as well as the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. The participating teachers from the Comprehensive School were drawn from the Mathematics and Special Needs Departments.

According to information from the Education Department, the workshop was another initiative of the partnership between the Department for International Development in London, the Government of Anguilla and the Isle of Wight Education Authority.

The workshop facilitators were a team of teachers from the Isle of Wight: Team leader and Local Education Authority Adviser, Denise Harbour; Sue Roper Local Education Authority Math Consultant; Alan Kaye, Consultant and recently-retired Director of Education; Gill Hilson, Clare Flawell, Karen Osborn and Wendy Mills.

Emphasis, at the workshop, was placed on the implementation of a Numeracy Strategy, requiring most of the time to be spent in the classrooms.
