| Publishing date: 08.05.2003 15:40 |
Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Osbourne Fleming and members of his cabinet on Tuesday 6th May held discussions with Mr. Robert Dixon, Executive Director, and Mr. Rabin Ortiz, General Manager of CuisinArt Resort and Spa.
|
The main agenda item for discussion was CuisinArt’s plans to create an educational grant programme for the hospitality community in collaboration with Johnson and Wales University in Florida.
The training programme being organized by CuisinArt Resort and Spa will in the first instance be limited to the staff of that property and it is hoped that the Government of Anguilla would partner with Johnson and Wales University and CuisinArt Resort and Spa to extend training to the wider tourism community.
Mr. Dixon updated Chief Minister Fleming on the Babysitting Certification Course organised by CuisinArt Resort and Spa in collaboration with the American Red Cross. This course, space permitting, will be open to other baby-sitters on Anguilla who are desirous of being certified. The baby-sitting course is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2003/2004 winter season, exact dates for which will be released later.
Mr. Dixon, on behalf of CuisinArt Resort and Spa, offered the Education Department some computers from its present inventory. This gesture by CuisinArt Resort and Spa was well received by Chief Minister Fleming who said that in this age of technological advancement, each child should have adequate access to a computer.
Chief Minister Fleming thanked Mr. Dizxon and Mr. Ortiz for CuisinArt’s invaluable contribution to Anguilla’s tourism industry and expressed his pleasure with the increased occupancy levels being experienced by the hotel.
Discussions are to continue among the Government of Anguilla, CuisinArt Resort and Spa and Johnson and Wales University on a training programme for the hospitality industry on Anguilla.
