TAE KWON DO EXAMS IN ANGUILLA


International Tae-kwon-Do Federation (ITF) Instructor, Claude Chin, was in Anguilla last week to conduct the examinations for members of the local chapter of the ITF. AXA ITF Taekwon-Do Club Instructor and Anguilla’s official ITF representative, Gregory Permuy, was promoted to second degree black belt (2nd Dan). The exams were also successfully completed by Disa Billington, Robert MacClean and Michael Permuy. The exams held at the conference Room of Malliouhana Resort & Spar, included patterns, breaking, sparring and a test of their general knowledge of the art.

Chin, who is based in Jamaica, spent five days on the island, during which he met with Minister of Sports, the Honourable Eric Reid to discuss the development of ITF Taekwon-Do on Anguilla. He also conducted special training sessions for the members of the AXA ITF Taekwon-Do Club. This is the second time that Chin has been in Anguilla for the Club’s exams. He is expected to return in November with Peter Lue, Jamaica’s Chief Instructor and one of the highest qualified ITF Instructors in the Caribbean.

Permuy, who just completed two weeks of training in Jamaica, is planning to attend the 13th World ITF Senior Championships and Congress in June. This will be the first time that Anguilla will be represented at an ITF Congress. Last year the Club made history when 1st Degree Black Belt Jelani Banks attended the 6th World Junior Championships in Puerto Rico.
