Arrival Of New Governor To Anguilla


Mr Alistair Harrison CVO will arrive in Anguilla on Sunday 19 April 2009 to take up his appointment as Governor. He will be accompanied by his wife Sarah and their three children Matilda (Tilly) aged 9, and twins Eliza and Ralph, aged 5. Mr Harrison was previously scheduled to arrive in Anguilla on 9 April but was delayed due to the sudden death of his father.

The family will travel from Princess Julianna Airport in St Maarten by Anguilla Air Services charter to Wallblake Airport and be met by the Acting Governor, the Chief Minister and the Commissioner of Police. Mr Harrison will be sworn in as Governor at the House of Assembly at 10.00 am on Tuesday 21 April.

Those persons previously invited to the swearing in at the House of Assembly and the evening reception at Government House on Tuesday 14 April should bring their original invitations to both events now rescheduled for 21 April. Please note the evening reception will start at 6.30 pm as previously arranged but the swearing in has been brought forward to 10.00 am.

Mr Harrison has 30 years experience in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and has recently completed a three-year appointment to the British High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia, as High Commissioner.

He has also spent time working in New York and Warsaw, as well as Policy Adviser for the European Commission in Brussels. Mr Harrison was most recently head of the Zimbabwe Unit in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London.

Mr Harrison succeeds Mr Andrew George who retired from the Diplomatic Service in March 2009.

Mr Harrison’s children will attend Stoney Ground Primary School.
