2008 Science Fair Closes


The results of the 2008 ALHCS Science Fair were announced at a closing ceremony on Friday, April 25 at the Teacher’s Resource Centre at 10:00am. The Honourable Deputy Governor, Mr. Stanley Reid attended the ceremony chaired by Mr. Winston Duncan, Curriculum Officer, Science. Many other education officers were present as well as the students who participated. Mr. Duncan explained that there has been a six year hiatus since the last Science Fair and he hopes that it continues on an annual basis. According to him, “a science fair lets students show their love for different subjects and permits them to be creative.”

Mrs. Ingrid Lake, Principal of ALHCS was very impressed with the fair it deemed it highly successful. The event was sponsored by Enclave Rising and they were represented by the CEO and Founder Ms. Kim Slicklein. Enclave Rising, according to their website, “is an international real estate development company committed to the integration of sustainable practices and world class design to create a new paradigm in development.” Ms. Slicklein mentioned that she has been very impressed with the passion displayed by students about Anguilla’s environment and she is happy to assist in the future.

Ms. Veda Harrigan reiterated the judging criteria before Ms. Slicklein and Mr. Vijay Sharma began giving the awards. In the Physical Science category, fist place was given to “Density of Eggs,” second place went to “Hot Air eggs” and third was awarded to “Volcano.” Environmental Science’s first place was given to “Catching Star Dust” while the second place winner was “Tomato Growth.” Fist place in the technological science category was “Electro Power”, second was “Water Filtration” and third was “Construction of a Catapult.” The final category, Life Science, had one winner and the trophies were given to the project entitled “Science of Cheese.”

Plaques were given to both Mr. Duncan and Joselyne Theophile-Richardson for their efforts in making the event successful and they pledged their commitment in the future to make the Science Fair better every year.
