|
Officers of the Anguilla Fire Service battled for a considerable period at around midday on Wednesday, April 23, to put out a fire which completely gutted one of the island’s semi-traditional houses at North Valley.

It was almost with a sense of frustration that efforts were made to extinguish the flames which kept flaring up repeatedly, all through the interior of the building, as firemen hosed water through the windows.

The large rented house was occupied by two tenants: Ikimbah Gumbs who was at the time at his work place, and Lemech Connor who said he was asleep. Connor, 17, told the police that he was awakened when an object appeared to have struck the inside of the road-side house.
Police are investigating the incident to determine the origin of the fire including whether there is any reason to suspect that it is a case of arson.
