15 Crimes Reported In Anguilla April 9-15


Media representatives were told on Wednesday by Sergeant Randolph Yearwood of the Royal Anguilla Police Force that there were 15 crimes on the island during the period April 9-15.

There were five burglary incidents which occurred at Shoal Bay, South Hill, North Hill, Seafeathers Bay and Welches. Among the stolen items were a lap top computer, a video recorder, a DVD player, a digital camera, an American Passport and tools.

There were six reports of theft at Island Harbour, Welches, the Valley, West End, North Side, George Hill and South Valley. Among the stolen items were a computer, gold rings and a wedding band, a scooter, a cellular phone and two bicycles.

The police received one report in which the person involved left without paying for supplies, two robbery reports in which US$620 and EC$90 were taken as well as a cellular phone. There was one report of criminal damage.

During the period one male person was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace and another for criminal trespass.

Inspector Marva Brooks reported that during the period April 1-15 there were 17 motor vehicle accidents. Fifteen of them were minor; a serious one which occurred in Statia Valley and a fatal one in the Valley.

Thirty-seven penalty tickets were issued for various traffic offences. Two persons were reported – one for driving without a licence and one for failing to comply with road traffic signs.

Inspector Paul Sinclair stated that the Police Task Force was now working closely on a regular basis with the Immigration and Customs Department in connection with persons living on the island illegally. “This is intelligence-led,” he stated. “We have information regarding people who should not be here or overstayed their welcome.” He revealed that as a result of road checks at West End and the Long Path, six persons will require further investigation and have been referred to the Immigration Department. He advised all persons to observe the Immigration rules on the island and to rectify any situation on their part.
