Bishop And Mrs. Brooks Honoured At Dinner Reception


An Organising Committee, headed by churchwoman Wren (Amy) Hunte, honoured the Rt. Rev. Errol and Mrs. Brooks at a grand dinner reception held at the up-market Zurra Restaurant, Temenos Golf Club, on Friday, March 28.

The occasion was the Tenth Anniversary of the Consecration and Ordination of the Anguillian top Clergyman as Bishop of the Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba. Prior to this post, he held many leading positions in the sub-region. In addition to Bishop, he currently serves as Chairman of the Northern Regional Council, Chairman of the Anguilla Christian Council; member of the Diocesan Commission on Ministry, the Diocesan Council, the Provincial Commission on Liturgy, the Provincial Standing Committee and the Anguilla Public Service Commission.

The Master of Ceremonies for the programme was Marcel Fahie, a leader at St. Mary’s Church. The Invocation was delivered by Methodist Minister Reverend Joseph Lloyd, representing the Anguilla Christian Council and the welcome was given by Barrister-at-Law, John Benjamin, the Bishop’s first cousin.

Following the dinner, famed Anguillian singer, Una Gumbs, melodiously sang “His Name So Sweet”. This was followed by remarks from Archbishop of the West Indies, the Most Reverend Drexel Gomez, who spoke highly of the Bishop and called for support of his ministry. Presentations were made to Bishop Brooks by Dana Ruan, Wren Hunte, Renford Kelsick and Fritz Smith. Mrs. Ruan also presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs. Brooks (her sister) and commended her for her passionate support for the Bishop. Mrs. Starry Benjamin, Managing Director of the Caribbean Commercial Bank, and a member of the Organising Committee, introduced Bishop Brooks (the Honoree) and called him to address the gathering.

He was grateful to those who planned the ceremony, to the Archbishop and Mrs. Gomez for their attendance and a number of persons, including family and friends, who helped to influence his life. He also spoke about the important mission of the Church and appealed for the continued support of his ministry from parishioners and the community at large.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Bernadine Horsford and the Benediction was pronounced by Archbishop Gomez.
