There were ten reports of theft one each at West End, Katouche, Lockrum, Statia Valley, Long Ground and the Valley and two in South Hill. Two of the other locations were not mentioned.

There was one report of burglary in the Valley. The items stolen included electrical poles, electrical pipes, plumbing pipes and nails, two crates of tiles, a pallet of blocks, a scooter, and US$3,600.

There was one report of an attempted robbery at South Hill by two masked men. There was one report of arson in which a motor vehicle was set afire at Island Harbour.

In another matter, police are investigating a case in which a boat carrying merchandise and a number of persons from Anguilla was intercepted at the Forest Bay on arrival from St. Martin. There was one arrest for obstruction.

Six other unrelated arrests were made by the police during the period under review. They included one for theft, one on a default warrant, one for possession of an offensive weapon and two for disorderly conduct.

Meanwhile, Inspector Paul Sinclair reported that the Easter weekend passed peacefully in Anguilla, particularly at Festival Del Mar where large crowds gathered for the occasion at Island Harbour. He said there was a big police presence there and that only one or two skirmishes occurred but were quickly brought under control.

He added that the police would again be around for Moonsplash and would carry out spot checks on vehicles travelling in the area.

Superintendent Rudolph Proctor was pleased with the good conduct at Festival De Mar and called on other organisers of public functions to follow the example of the planners of that festival to notify the police ahead of time. He explained that such advance notice would assist the police in taking proactive measures to avoid infringes against law and order.
