The missing person, a national of the Dominican Republic, is Victor Luciano Diaz De La Cruz, who was born on August 21, 1983. The man, an electrical worker, was last known to have been living at Stoney Ground, Anguilla.
It is alleged that the car he was driving struck a jeep which he was overtaking and that the jeep then collided head-on into an oncoming car in which Nell Rogers was a front-seat passenger, resulting in his death. Diaz Del La Cruz was one of two persons charged with dangerous causing death by dangerous driving. He was released on bail and his car was later returned to him by the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Illidge Richardson, told reporters at this week Wednesday’s press briefing that Cruz’s mother had informed the police last week Thursday that she did know his whereabouts. The police official released a photograph of the missing man to The Anguillian and the St. Maarten Daily Herald for publication and to request information from any member of the public who may know his whereabouts.
“We would like any information because he is charged with causing the death of Nell Rogers by dangerous driving,” Mr. Richardson said. “I don’t want to say that he fled Anguilla, but you can be a bit suspicious with regards to how he may have left Anguilla.”
Meanwhile, Superintendent Rudolph Proctor, who heads the Police Task Force commented: “We are treating this matter as a missing person report. We know that the young man’s car was located at the place where he worked…We now know that it has left the job site and is in the possession of a friend…
“We cannot say that he has absconded, but we are working with agencies outside of Anguilla to see whether there is any movement. Our Immigration and Customs records do not show that Del La Cruz left our ports. We are checking to see whether there is any entry of him on either side of St. Martin/St. Maarten.”
