Two UK students are currently in Anguilla, for two months, conducting research that will form part of their PhD thesis.

Katie Newton and Johanna Forster are from the University of East Anglia in England and between them are looking into a number marine related issues including: Where fish end up after they are caught and how this might change as human populations increase; how hurricanes affect reef related livelihoods, especially fishing and tourism; and the potential effects of climate change on both these areas.

Katie and Johanna will be talking to fishermen and those involved in the tourist industry around the island in order to collect the information they need to gain an understanding of these issues. In the past, Anguilla has hosted a number of students from the University of East Anglia with their studies thus increasing scientific knowledge of complex marine related issues, while at the same time putting Anguilla on the map of the Academic Community. It is hoped that relationships with this and other overseas universities are fostered so that we can look forward to similar visits in the future.
