Anguillian Graduates With M.Sc. In Medical Science

Ms. Odessica Hughes of Meads Bay, Anguilla, has been awarded a Master of Science Degree in Medical Statistics. She obtained the award from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom where she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Studies on January 25, 2008 following a vigorous one-year programme.

The outstanding achiever is currently a Statistician in the Government’s Statistics Department. She was the recipient of a Commonwealth Scholarships made available through the Anguilla Government to pursue her studies during the 2006-2007 academic year.
Ms Hughes, a former employee at the Social Security Office, also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Applied Statistics which she obtained from Coventry University, United Kingdom, in 2003. Her studies then were funded with a loan from the Anguilla Development Board and later with a Government grant.
She has taken the opportunity of this story in The Anguillian to thank the Government of Anguilla and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom for their assistance in her studies.
Ms Hughes is also grateful to former Chief Education Officer,Verna Fahie, for her help and her family and friends for their encouragement and support.
She is the daughter of Mrs. Bernalette Sutton of South Hill and Lewis Hodge of Meads Bay and the niece of Brenda and Pearline Hughes.
Ms Hughes hopes to pursue a doctoral degree in Medical Statistics or Epidemiology later.
