The course had been in preparation for several months and was also presented in the BVI. It follows the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Governor and AAIB on 21 January allowing for the AAIB to assist the Governor in the event of an investigation into an aircraft accident or serious incident in Anguilla. Similar agreements have been entered into with all the Overseas Territories.

16 Government officials from the Royal Anguilla Police Force, Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service, Governor’s Office, Department of Disaster Management, Health Authority of Anguilla and Wallblake Airport joined six of their colleagues from Montserrat and ASSI in attending the course.
Delegates learnt about the purpose of air accident investigations, the initial accident response, health and safety risks at an accident site, evidence gathering and preservation, operations investigation, wreckage recovery and investigation progression. The aims of the course was to explain the purpose of air accident investigation; to highlight what an air accident involves; to train key personnel in managing the initial response to an accident until the AAIB arrives to assist and ; to explain the AAIB’s roles and responsibilities.

Mr Keith Conradi, Principal Inspector of Air Accidents at the AAIB, acted as senior instructor during the course. Mr Richard Ross, Senior Inspector of Air Accidents (Engineering) and Mr Sid Hawkins, Engineering Support and Health and Safety Manager, assisted him in presenting the various topics. All three members of the presentation team facilitated workshops throughout the duration of the course.
Following the final session on Friday afternoon, His Excellency the Governor, Mr Andrew George, made a few brief remarks on the importance of understanding and acting on the principles which had been taught over the two day course and then presented certificates of attendance to all the participants.
