The two, three week courses were arranged by the Anguilla Development Board through the Caribbean Development Bank. Mr. Azaire represented the Caribbean Technology Consultancy Service department of the CDB. Mr. Azaire, originally from Guyana, currently lives in St. Lucia and is sent all over the Caribbean to teach his knowledge of pottery, ceramics, glass and fine arts.

The course was part of the Sentence Planning Programme and its main coordinator, Officer Luke Azille, was on hand to speak about the programme. He was thankful of the ADB, CDB and the Social Security Board for providing this opportunity for the prisoners to be rehabilitated and have a skill once they leave the prison. The prisoners were also very thankful and some had these words to say:

Linroy Bryan – I would like to thank Mrs. Wilma Vanterpool and the ADB Small Enterprise Development Unit for being so consistent and progressive in placing these educational workshops as part of our rehabilitation and a special thanks to Wilma for her time and continuous effort that was placed in organizing these programmes. I would also like to thank teacher Adam Azaire for being so patient with his instructions and understanding with our errors. Thank you also Adam for not being afraid to take part in a prison based workshop and for not treating us like mere criminals; it is an honor to be your student.

Rolandito Richardson – Based on the results of the pottery class as an inmate; to me the was awesome. It was a fun experience and it also helped us in our creative skills.

Levi O’Flaherty – I am thankful for the opportunity to learn and the teachers were great

Wingrove Carty – I must say much thanks to Adam for the role he played in helping not only me but others discover new talents. I am looking forward to upgrading this new talent to show the world.
