ECCB Economist Lauds Anguilla

Ms Beverley Labedie, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s Economist assigned to Anguilla, says that according to statistics the island is doing well. “The figures show that it has a double digit growth,” she felt at liberty to say during an interview with The Anguillian.

Ms Labedie, who works directly with the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, an arm of the ECCB, said: “We monitor the economic and social development in the countries of the ECCU. We use this information to inform the policy-makers and to advise them about the growth and development of their countries.”

While in Anguilla she met and held talks with a cross-section of persons in the public and private sectors on various matters related to the economic development of the island and its associate status with the ECCB. She also found time to visit Heritage Collection museum with which she was extremely impressed.

Ms Labedie, who is originally from Dominica, is based at the ECCB Headquarters in St. Kitts and has been working there for over a year. She studied economics at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies and did her post-graduate studies at the University of California.

Ms Marilyn Bartlett-Richardson, the Anguillian Resident Agency Representative of the ECCB, commented: “We are proud to have her with us and we have ensured that she met with the appropriate persons to get a better feel of what is happening in the economy. She will be able to understand the figures better by having spoken with them.”
