Crime Talk Even At Police Dinner

Many attended the Police Dinner over the weekend at the House of Chandeliers and while they enjoyed a good supper and the climax of Police Week, they also had to digest some serious crime talk by Deputy Commissioner, Illidge Richardson.

“The Royal Anguilla Police Force is facing many challenges due to the increase in certain crimes occurring on the island,” he lamented in an address to the guests. “We are blamed by many for not doing enough to reduce the surge in robberies, gun crime and murders. Others may blame us for not being confidential and for not knowing who the crooks are and doing nothing to apprehend them.”

Mr. Richardson observed, however, that the police were unable to work alone in handling the crime situation. He appealed to all persons for their support in reducing the level of criminal activity that is disrupting the way of life in Anguilla.

“The Anguillian public needs to support its local police force in the fight against crime and violence,” he stated. “The public needs to spend more time discussing the root cause of crime. We need to bring back family values, family togetherness, to love each other and be our brother’s keeper. In the end we would have safer and better communities around Anguilla.

“There will then be no east against west, north against south. Instead, we would be one family living together in peace and quiet.”

The event, always a gala affair, brought together Governor and Mrs. George, Deputy Governor and Mrs. Reid, Force Chaplin Bishop Errol Brooks, members and staff of the Police Force and a number of persons from the community.
