Government Fulfils Promise To Meet With Teachers

The Government met on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008, with the Teachers’ Union at the Stoney Ground Primary School Auditorium. The meeting lasted well over two hours. The Honourable Chief Minister Fleming and the Honourable Minister of Education Evans Mcniel Rogers made some brief remarks before questions were asked.

Chief Minister Fleming said that the ministers’ presence was indicative of the important role Government felt teachers played in the advancement of the nation. Mr. Fleming said that Government was present because he promised in a meeting with the Executive of the Teachers’ Union that he would come to the meeting to address any issues or matters.

The Minister of Education also reiterated his appreciation for the contribution of teachers in the various schools and disciplines. Mr. Rogers said that he was pleased with the attendance at the meeting especially in light of the fact that salaries were not on the agenda for discussion. Mr. Rogers reminded the teachers that we must work together and continue to be united for the common good of the future of the nation. The Honourable Victor F. Banks and the Honourable Kenneth R. Harrigan also participated in the meeting.

Insurance and liabilities
Safety and Hazards
School Plant - Development and Improvement
Equipment Upgrades and Procurement
Classrooms and space for ESL and Counseling
Recruitment of teachers for ESL and Counseling
Status of Teachers
Children of Teachers paying for time.
