NEW LOOK AT ALTAMER RESTAURANT
|
Altamer Restaurant on the West End coastline in Anguilla has taken on a new look, making it more user friendly for its guests.
Mrs. Rebecca Eggleton, who owns the property along with her husband Michael, told The Anguillian: “After been in operation for one year and talking to our guests, we have incorporated some new things for the season. We accentuated both the views looking to the kitchen as well as to the sea. When you look to the sea now all the glass has been removed between the main dining room and the terrace, so everyone has a terrace view wherever they sit in the restaurant which gives it more of an open feeling and much more of a view to the sea. In addition to the glass, through which you can see the activity of the kitchen, we have now moved the grand piano so you got that activity there as well as the flambé… So we have the flambé with the fire going up, the music going and the activity in the kitchen.”
Altamer Restaurant started a new menu on Monday. “We have some of the old favourites as well as many new items that have been added to the menu, offering our guests some new dishes to try,” Mrs. Eggleton said.
Asked how the season is shaping up, she replied: “We are looking forward to a great season. Everyone we talk to is very upbeat, very positive. We are hopeful for the restaurant and hope everyone has a great season.”
At present the upscale property includes one five-bedroom villa with an opportunity for a sixth bedroom. This past August the Eggletons opened a conference centre, a new addition, for executive retreats. The facility is designed for 20-30 people around the conference table, but it can accommodate between 60 and 70 persons if they are in the room in theatre style. Another villa will become operational during the following season, November 2003. A third villa will be constructed in 2004.
Mrs. Eggleton said: “We found our guests at the villa [to be] couple different types of people. We had family gatherings, groups of friends celebrating anniversaries and special birthdays and people who just want to get away.” She stated that Altamer offers a very high level of service at the villa or restaurant with excellent cuisine.
Mrs. Eggleton is originally from Rochester, New York, and has been living abroad for the past ten years when not in Anguilla. “I started as a tourist coming here. I love the island and the people here, and I just wanted to come back. I think Anguilla has the most beautiful people and beaches,” she added.
