Anguillian Bodybuilder World Class Winner

Anguillian Darren Gumbs, has received the coveted United States award for becoming the World Junior Body Building Champion.
He gained the Junior Musclemania World Bodybuilding title in the 2007 championships held in November in Los Angeles, California.

The records he holds include the following: the 2002 Leeward Islands and Virgin Islands Junior Bodybuilding Mr. Classic Championship; the 2002 and 2003 Mr. Anguilla Junior Champion of the Anguilla Bodybuilding Association; the 2003 Caribbean and Central America Junior Champion held in the Bahamas; the 2003 Light Weight Body Building Champion of the Eastern Caribbean which he won in Trinidad and Tobago; the number five Junior Bodybuilder in the world in the 2003 championships held in the Czech Republic; the number two Junior Bodybuilder in the 2004 and 2005 championships held in the United Kingdom; the number three Junior Bodybuilder of the International Federation of Body Building, held in Hungary in 2005. He was the Light Weight Champion in the 2005 Excalibur Bodybuilding Championships in Los Angeles.
All of these achievements have now been topped by his latest championship won last month.

Darren is a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer. In 2006 he successfully completed a one-year course in Public Relations and Management at Solihull College in Birmingham. In October 2007 he was successful in completing a one-year computer programme in aid design with emphasis in mechanical engineering drawing at Sutton Cold-Field College in Birmingham.
He is the son of Derek (Auto Doctor) and Juliana Gumbs who said they were proud to share in his accomplishments. “Darren has defied all odds and has proven that setting goals and remaining focus is a guarantee for success,” he parents stated.

They have expressed thanks to the Anguillian community for supporting his early beginnings in bodybuilding prior to leaving for England. They have also thanked Lelia Richardson, Joseph Pradel and the proprietor of Halls Bakery for their assistance in helping to shape his bodybuilding career as well as Joe Lobell, Darren’s sponsor in Oklahoma, who organised the various competitions and travel arrangements for him.
Mr. and Mrs. Gumbs said they were also grateful to the Anguilla Government for its confidence in Darren’s ambassadorial role to represent the island in the Caribbean, Central America, North America and Europe.
