Mr. Carty expressed the hope that in due course energy policies dealing with mitigation and adaptation that climate changes would present, could be passed in the House.
He thought the seminar was an excellent one in which the importance of raising the issue of climate change was stressed, so that as much action as possible could be taken to mitigate its future effects.
Carty reported that a communiqué agreed at the seminar would be sent to the United Nations Bali Conference, to be held next week. It is to be presented by the UK and European Union to the Bali negotiators. He was chosen as the Caribbean representative to write the communiqué section for the region.
The Bali Conference is a preparatory meeting where discussions will be held on the procedures that the global community needs to undertake to lead to a new Change Climate Treaty. The latter is planned to take place in Demark in 2009.
Mr. Carty was among eighty-five parliamentarians from the Commonwealth, and also from Japan and Mexico, at the London conference and seminar on “Climate Change – Tackling the Causes, Managing the Impacts.
There were presentations by experts in the political, economic and scientific fields on climate change, a topic that is of much interest and importance across the world.
