SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORTS THE LAUNCH OF TRANQUILITY JAZZ FESTIVAL
|
The Launch of Tranquility Jazz Festival has been enhanced by the contribution of US$5,000.00 from the Social Security Board. The funds, which will be used to help defray travel and production costs associated with the Launch, were presented to Chairman of the Tranquility Jazz Festival Committee, Mr Fitzroy Tomlinson in a brief handing-over ceremony at the offices of the Anguilla Social Security Board.
According to Director of Social Security, Mr Timothy Hodge, the decision to support the Jazz Festival is in keeping with the Board’s decision to focus on projects of a developmental nature which have the potential to generate increased and far reaching effects in the wider national economy. It is especially timely given the Board’s observance of 20 years of Social Security in Anguilla, since it effectively punctuates our commitment to continue to support developmental initiatives which are of sustainable nature.”
In receiving the contribution cheque, Mr Tomlinson expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Festival’s Steering Committee, for the Social Security Board’s recognition of the value of the Tranquility Jazz Festival as a marketing tool for the island with the potential to generate benefits such as increased arrivals; increased business for restaurants, taxis and other ancillary services within the destination; broadening of the island’s product offering; and Government revenue in the form of ticket taxes, departure taxes, drivers’ licenses and accommodation taxes.
The Launch of Tranquility Jazz Festival takes place November 22 and 23, 2002, climaxing with a grand free concert on the beach at Sandy Ground.
